Who would have thought American audiences have not yet gotten tired of the spoof schtick? Meet The Spartans managed to pull off a mild upset by hundreds of thousands of dollars over Rambo. The comedy film that pokes fun at 300 among other flicks slayed an estimated $18.5 million to be the top film at the weekend box office.
Not far off was the latest action flick from the famed franchise of Sylvester Stallone. The violent pic managed to slice an impressive $18.2 million for second place. With the international market still on the way, the film is poised to give the old hero another mild hit. Not bad for an aging action star that has seen more flops lately.
Stealing headlines once again was Cloverfield, this time for the wrong reasons. The monster flick dropped a big number to settle for fourth place. It now has accumulated a total of $64.3 million in ten days.
