The Hollywood summer season came to a close with the weekend being ruled by Superbad. It was a gargantuan overall season as a lot of blockbusters came to take the audiences’ attention and only a few disappointments were recorded. Of course, the month of May proved to be the month of the threequel but August proved to be the most pivotal yet as it steered the season to a record-breaking one. The season has now grossed $4.033 billion.
Spider-Man 3, Shrek The Third and Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End came storming out of the gates with record hauls but all three unsuccessfully tried in their attempts to outgroos their predecessors. Still, those three proved to be a major force all sumemr long in the United States as well as internationally.
Help came in the way of June as the surprise hit Knocked Up was the first of two comedy surprises from the team of Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow. Add to that another third installment in the form of Ocean’s Thirteen. Alas, it also underperformed compared to its preecessor. Another big hit that was marred by underperformance was Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer.
Ratatouille, Transformers, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, and The Simpsons Movie ruled the month of July with resounding success. However, the dog days that was supposed to be August became a more surprising month as The Bourne Ultimatum, Rush Hour 3 and Superbad came out with stellar figures.
