It is easy to say that Eli Roth’s horror series is a low budget exercise of his. It is as close as a Grindhouse film as one could get. Still, why is Hostel: Part Two labeled a disappointment?
Well, the first film hauled in just below $20 million on its opening week. This sequel was below $10 million. So, what was supposed to equal, or even surpass the business the first film did ended up not up to the task. So, it was really quite a shame.
That puts into perspective what the trend could end up with. This horror films that deal with decapitated bodies may have run its course. To think Hostel has raised the bar from the Saw films did little to interest the public in the summer season. Maybe, the audience has had its fill of tortures. In fact, a look at Peter Parker in emo mode dancing in a jazz bar was excruciating enough!
So, this leaves us with Saw IV to look forward to.
