What was clear in the weekend box office results in the United States was the last thing on most people’s minds was watching The Last Legion. Maybe they have had their fill of epic adventures. Maybe the excruciating memory of King Arthur was still fresh in their minds. There could be a lot of reasons why it placed lowly.
It did not even land in the Top Ten this weekend. That was what made it more unbearable for a film that has received the brunt of most critics’ rants. Well, this movie and The Invasion. Perhaps as much as Colin Firth is starting to become a recognized name, thanks to Bridget Jones’ Diary, he is still not the type of person who could carry the film of this magnitude. Of course, the film was not exceptional, based on the trailer alone.
It was almost the one film that could catapult Aishwarya Rai to further superstardom. Maybe next film. Not even Sir Ben Kingsley’s presence could make this a credible film to be seen.
