I told you so.

Leatherheads was completely intercepted by 21 in the box office that really ruined any chance of George Clooney redeeming himself as a box office draw. At least in my eyes. Bad reviews meant bad business for the sports movie that co-strred Renee Zellweger, while the gambling film managed to stay on top of the charts.

Clooney’s film was even trumped by Nim’s Island, for crying out loud. The adventure film had a modest $13 million take while the football flick lumbered to $12 million. The difference, you may ask? Leatherheads was supposed to rule the weekend. Instead, it was only the third placer. 21, on the other hand, took in $15 million to make it an impressive $46 million gross to date.

The forecast for Clooney and Co.? It is only going to get worse. Bad openings will not be salvaged by even worse reviews, mind you.
