Is the musical genre really back? Every once in a while, a musical would make its way to the silver screen and makes people wonder if that certain musical would generate good reviews as well as huge box office numbers. Some would succeed but lately they have also failed.

Remember when Chicago started winning awards as well as drawing record crowds? Did you read every Hollywood beat writer proclaiming that the musical genre is definitely back? Some actually believed it. Joel Schumacher certainly did. So, did you by any chance catch Phantom Of The Opera? I certainly did not.

See, for every success story like Dreamgirls, whose success was mildly stunted by the Oscars snub, there are films like Rent that do not reach any box office plateau or rave reviews. Still, some of them are actually worth checking out.
