Oscar Low

The latest telecast of the Oscar Awards was quite a letdown. In fact, it was the lowest ratings it ever got in its history. It was a disappointment since the end of the writers’ strike should have made this one extra special. So what could have been the culprit?

Well, the lack of preparations should have been the omen, that is for sure. The set looked awful, the song interpretations were clearly affected and some segments were poorly executed. Jon Stewart did his best and he was a good choice as host. Still, his popularity is not exactly the one that encompasses the movie world. He is more on the political and comic worlds.

However, the list of nominees could be the biggest reason. Juno aside, the nominees for Best Picture were hardly seen. Even the winners in the hotly-contested acting categories are foreigners, which could have been unheard of for many Americans. Daniel Day-Lewis is a recognizable name but he is no George Clooney. A blockbuster or an A-lister here and there would have been better.
