Movie Fan Zone

A lot of things seems to be going with Hairspray at first glance. One look at the cast and it is certainly going to impress audiences. Not just recognizable names but big time celebrities are gracing this film. Some of them have had experience acting in a musical.

John Travolta was in Grease, Michelle Pfeiffer was in the less-successful Grease 2, Queen Latifah was nominated for her performance in Chicago. Add the now hugely popular Zac Efron of High School Musical fame and it is certainly a film that could really contend in the box office.

Problem is, Travolta is in drag and might scare some people. Plus, except for Wild Hogs, he is no big box office guarantee. Pfeiffer has not appeared in a film the past few years. Also, the previous film incarnation of this story was not exactly a blockbuster.

Lastly, it is mired in a season filled with big budgeted action flicks and animated movies. Not to mention it is released at the same time with an Adam Sandler movie. Tsk tsk.
