I finally got around to watch Stardust and I must say, I am wondering about the taste of many moviegoers lately. How was this not a hit is really quite a travesty for me. It is definitely a visually exhilirating and enjoyable film that would be enjoyed by adults. Simply put, this is a fantasy love story that actually works.
While it was a commercial disaster, it is quite warmly received by those who have watched. Why not? Most of the cast were really good and the stroy never lets up in terms of action and suspense. The love story has cracks in it and Claire Danes was quite a miscast. The ending was quite not at par with the rest of the stroy. Still, this film delivers the goods.
Charlie Cox was a notable performer here. He was heroic in the moments where he needed to be and clueless when the scene called for it. Rober de Niro had a surprising role here but, as always, he was up for it. And what could I say about Michelle Pfeiffer? She was deliciously evil all throughout the movie. Every scene she was in, you would really feast on her presence.
Another surprising element of the flick was its humor. The comic reliefs were really noteworthy. Director Matthew Vaughn was definitely successful in putting all the elements for an almost perfect fantasy film.
