If there is one film that could be described as almost perfect, then There Will Be Blood has a legit claim. After all, it is a masterpiece from start to somewhere near the end. A few tweaks in the end and it could have very well been the greatest film in history. Unfortunately, it misses the mark towards the end.
Do not, however, think for a second that this film is a failure. Far from it, actually. Paul Thomas Anderson was able to create a vivid story about an oil tycoon and the way to the American Dream. With Daniel Day-Lewis, this fiery project was able to go into motion as the actor was simply marvelous as the anti-hero. Certainly, his performance will go down as one of the best in history.
If not for the craziness towards the end, this film would have been bar none the perfect example of, well, perfection. Alas, it had to go through such a phase and in the end, it was quite a flaw. Still, the brilliance of the direction and the masterful portrayal of the lead star makes this one of the few masterpieces I have seen this decade.
