In a perfect world, all parodies or spoofs would be almost like this film. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story is so different from most of the films that the Judd Apatow House of Comedy has churned out lately but it could lay claim as being one of its finest.
The music is perfect, the dialogue is over-the-top hilarious and the performances are simply charismatic. This would not all work, however, if not for the brilliance of John C. Reilly. His portrayal of the titular character is where the film hinges on to become great and he delivers.
The funniest moments of the film are not even the ones where it pokes fun on the genre’s many cliches. It is when it becomes original and relies on Reilly to spit out his lines that it gives the audience a reason to laugh out loud. This film would be a instant classic if not for the dismal box office performance it had.
